We’re about to be halfway through the year, and while some of us may be on track for our reading goals … some of us (myself included) are not. And that’s okay! Your reading goal is not Bible, so you can always change it, but if you’d like a fun way to kickstart your reading goal back into gear while enjoying a month filled with bookish friends, then you’re in luck.
Our January Read-a-Thon has now gone on for two years, and I’d say it’s been a pretty fun time, right? We read together for a month and enjoy a fun challenge together. The group chat is always active with book recommendations and how everyone is doing, and the meet-ups are always a great way to check-in but also enjoy bonding over what we love - books and reading.
So why not do it in the summer? We can have our meet-ups in the parks, and we can get ahead of our reading goal while the weather is nice. It’s also kind of the perfect time to do a read-a-thon too, because we dial back on book clubs and events so we have more time to read. Below you can find all the information available on all the tickets and perks!
WE ARE GETTING HATS. That’s right, the book hoes are finally getting hats. They’re going to be purple dad hats with our little book guy embroidered on the front. There will be 35 hats available with resident tickets, and then there are also regular resident tickets available. The final party will be on Monday, July 1st at Verlaine Bar which is where the Murder, They Read Book Club meets. It will be a chill, relaxing evening to celebrate our reading and enjoy a few drinks off the Book Hoes/Verlaine drinks menu.
Here’s the information you can find in the Eventbrite:
HOW THE READATHON WORKS:
Every day you will fill out a Google Form where you track the amount of time you've spent reading and the number of pages you've read.
All reading materials are valid for this readathon. Any time you spend reading, record it. Any pages you read, keep track. In regards to audiobooks, the goal for this readathon is to set aside time for reading and relax into a good book. Audiobooks can only count towards 'time read' if you are physically setting aside time to sit, listen, and engage with the book. Audiobooks do not count towards pages number tracking. Listening to an audiobook throughout the day while working or multitasking does not count. This has worked well for past readathons and we will continue to implement this rule going forward.
PLEASE NOTE: THE READATHON WILL START ON JUNE 1ST. THE FINAL CELEBRATION PARTY WILL BE AT VERLAINE BAR IN THE LOWER EAST SIDE ON MONDAY, JULY 1ST AT 7PM.
There will be two winners for this readathon - the most time read and the most pages read. All participants will receive the tracking form on May 30th with instructions on how to use it. You will need to save this link and fill it out every day. The readathon will officially start on June 1st so please do not track any reading prior to that. If you miss a day of tracking, no worries ! Just add the amount to the next day's tally and submit it all in one form.
